Baptism

Baptism of Infants (Under Five Years of Age)

In order to respond responsibly to the high volume of baptism requests, we will hold two group baptisms every month. While we will add additional group baptisms as needed, the parish office will end the practice of scheduling private baptisms.

Starting in September of 2025, the parish will offer two group baptisms a month:

  • The First Sunday of the Month at 2 PM
  • The Second Saturday of the Month at 11:30 AM

Baptismal Prep Classes will be offered on the first Saturday of the month at 10 AM. (Exception: If the first day of the month is a Sunday, the prep class will be the day before.)

Parents can also utilize the on-line baptism course offered by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles: https://lacatholics.org/baptism/

The Baptismal Preparation Class is required for parents and is held on the day before the Baptism (Saturday) at 10:00 AM. The schedule of exact dates for Baptisms and Preparation Classes is available by calling the Parish Center Receptionist at (212) 265-3495, ext. 0. Parents are requested to fill out the Infant Baptism Request Form, also available with the Receptionist.

For non-parishioners, written permission from the Pastor of the Parish where you are registered is required to have your child baptized at The Church of St. Paul the Apostle.

Baptism of Children
(Five Years of Age and Above)

Children are enrolled in a Faith Formation program for at least two years, in preparation for the Sacraments at Easter. Parents and families are involved in this process, known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC).

“The Church of St Paul the Apostle opened its doors and offered us the opportunity to lay the foundation for our family’s spiritual future. We were able to have our first son Nathan baptized in a reverent and private ceremony allowing our family to come together from different parts of the country to celebrate his birth. Deacon Wally guided us spiritually with great thoughtfulness and sensitivity. My wife and I will always be grateful for this welcoming.” ~ Bryan Kaye

Baptism of Adults

Adults preparing to become Catholic will participate in a Faith Formation program that lasts, depending on needs, from six months to over a year.

They normally celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil.

If you have questions or would like to become Catholic, please contact Dave de La Fuente, Director of OCIA.
