The Roosevelt Organ Project

The church of St. Paul the Apostle seeks to enrich the cultural life of the Lincoln Center neighborhood and support its growing community of artists with a world-class pipe organ. By restoring and installing a historic American pipe organ, the church intends to bring new life to this timeless art form with performances, educational programs and liturgies surrounding the organ.

The current organ at St. Paul the Apostle is nearing mechanical failure and will soon be unable to serve the church’s vibrant sacred music program and the diverse needs of the surrounding community. We have identified and acquired an ideal organ for our church – the 1892 Roosevelt pipe organ originally built for the now-closed Church of All Saints in Harlem. In order to carry out the mission of our project, the instrument will need to be carefully restored and installed at St. Paul the Apostle.

“Dedicated organ students both deserve and need a large pipe organ situated in a rich acoustic, so that they might refine their artistry and share their work with countless music lovers. I can think of no more perfectly suited to house such an instrument than St. Paul the Apostle.”

– Paul Jacobs, Chairman of the Organ Department at the Juilliard School

“Not only is the Roosevelt Organ a historically significant instrument that’s worthy of preservation, but its versatility and magnitude would be a perfect fit for the musical life and liturgy of the church of St. Paul the Apostle.”

– Michael Hey, Organist at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC
