Summer Socials at St. Paul’s will feature talks by theologians, journalists, and activists, along with community-building and pilgrimages. Exploring Catholic social teaching from different angles, we’ll consider what it means to build peace through justice, revive dialogue, and engage the major themes of the Pope’s new encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas. All of this is ultimately brought to life through witness to the experiences of our fellow Catholics.

Our Loaves and Fishes food pantry distributes dry goods to 300 families facing food insecurity in our neighborhood. Distribution is aided by a few of our ministries, including Saint Vincent de Paul and OSP; we are always in need of volunteers to pack bags and distribute them to our guests. According to the The New York Times, a visit to Queens Night Market during the summer is a must… we agree!
Join us on August 15th as we venture to the Queens Night Market. It is a large, family-friendly open-air night market in Queens, featuring up to 100 independent vendors selling merchandise, art, and food and featuring small-scale cultural performances, all celebrating the rich cultural diversity and heritage of NYC and Queens.

About the Book:

Beyond the Rubble: Real Stories of 9/11 with Mike Kelly, author of After Ground Zero

Journalist Mike Kelly was across the Hudson River when the two jets crashed into the World Trade Center’s twin towers. His immediate goal was to get to the scene and gather some first-hand reporting to file on deadline. But this was just the first step of a decades-long journey through another kind of rubble, through the pain left behind and the unhealed scars of people’s lives in the wake of a terrorist attack.
25 years after the tragedy that rocked our city to its core, we invite parishioners to join us for a discussion of Mr. Kelly’s book, After Ground Zero. We will reflect on the events of that day and talk through how parishioners reacted, mourned, and found God’s place in the aftermath. We hope your participation will help us better understand how to make sense of tragedies in the world and where we can find Christ’s healing presence in moments of great suffering.
